COUPLETS

Spring couplets are something we started seeing around about one month ago. They're a red paper decoration put up every year around Chinese New Year. From what we understand, people put them up to scare away evil and to attract and express good fortune for the coming year. Below you'll see some couplets put up by our neighbors.

Debbie and Erica are two friends of ours in Douliu. Both of them are seniors in the college here and are earning their degrees in English. They were kind enough to get us some spring couplets to decorate the entrance to our apartment.
