...water chestnuts can look like the picture below before they are dug out of their skin/shell, cut up and put into frozen Chinese stir-fry mixes!?! :) People here steam water chestnuts and eat them right from the skin/shell. They’re kind of tricky to eat. You have to bite them pretty hard to crack them in half. Then, you use the little horn from one half to dig out the insides of the other half. They taste very different from the ones we were used to eating in stir-fry back at home.
